Instructive
A 64-hour weekend, six people, first place in the Standard Division at natHacks 2025.
The problem
Teachers in Alberta and BC told us the same thing: students with documented learning disabilities have individual education plans, and adapting a curriculum to those plans is unpaid evening work done by hand.
Instructive centralizes the plans, the curriculum and the reports, then uses a local open-source language model with retrieval to propose concrete adaptations, citing the plan's own government-mandated goals and only school-approved resources. Student data never leaves the building.
The weekend
Six people who'd mostly just met, a fixed deadline, and no time to be precious about architecture. The interesting engineering problem wasn't the code; it was splitting work six ways so nobody blocked anybody, and keeping the demo runnable the entire time rather than only at the end.
It took first place in the Standard Division, judged on technical depth, accessibility impact and real-world practicality.
